Video trial and error.

This is a video I produced with several other students for our EDTEC 350 class. The assignment was to create a one-minute, promotional video that could be used to advertise the teacher’s college.

Although I worked with iMovie earlier in the semester, it was interesting to note how my process changed from the first iMovie project (available here [link]), to the way that we produced the video this time around. I must say, it was substantially easier this time around, mainly because I knew about more potential pitfalls this time around and was able to avoid them. Also, this time my organizational framework was better because I knew more about the kind of shots I was going to have to get, which cut down on shooting time and also on unnecessary footage. I think I’ve still got a long way to go before I can actually produce something that’s high quality (I still couldn’t get the sound quite right for this!), but the whole process reinforced my theory that using technology in education has to be done more than once in order to get students to be successful at it. A lot of times, I’ve read things about how using technology is “pain” and that students are incapable of learning how to do things like podcasts or video projects. While I certainly understand the frustrations of teachers who are trying to teach technical skills on a limited time frame, I feel like in this case, the old saying is true: practice makes perfect.
